Round-up 2017

Kindergarten Rond-up vero beach

Come join us at the mall!

Saturday, February 25, 2017

10:00am – 2:00pm

As part of the Moonshot Moment goal, agencies are coming together to host a one-day, completely free, family-friendly event.

Parents can enroll children in summer programming, register for kindergarten with the School District of Indian River County, and learn about local services. New this year, parents will also be able to register for VPK Vouchers (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten) with the Early Learning Coalition. There will be free health screenings for children, too!

We will have story time on stage and several local preschools will be doing performances near the Food Court.

Our goal is to change the culture in Indian River County around education. Education begins at birth and there are lots of easy activities that parents can do now that can help prepare their child for success in school and in life.  We also want to shift towards a habit/trend of registering early for school.

Pre-k Party and Kindergarten Round-up 2017

With several new additions this year, The Round-up was a tremendous success. Part of the vision for community Round-ups was to work backwards from age 5 and Kindergarten registration to include activities and materials for younger children. For our second year, we added Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) applications, available to every 4-year old in the state. We also added additional health screenings and immunization records, and a Kid’s Corral with qualified volunteers to watch children while parent’s completed paperwork. Outcomes include:

  • Over 400 families attended with 1,500 people in attendance

  • 227 Kindergarten Registrations were completed with SDIRC

  • 65 STEP into K (Summer Transition Enrichment Program) registrations completed by SDIRC and The Education Foundation

  • 90 VPK certificates were issued by ELC-IRMO

  • 145 children participated in age appropriate educational activities at the Kids Corral

  • 30 vision screenings were completed with the Department of Health

  • 24 Immunization Records (form 680) printed by the Department of Health

  • Over 1,000 books distributed by Literacy Services IRC

  • 135 agency staff and volunteers helped make this event possible

  • 46 partner agencies and schools were represented at the event

We want to thank all of the people who helped make our 2017 event a success!

Event Results as of 3/4/2016:

  • Approximately 375 families attended

  • Approximately 1,250 total people attended

  • 170 fully completed kindergarten enrollments with the SDRIC (this means they had all necessary paperwork with them and were assigned a school)

  • 170 t-shirts were given to children who registered for kindergarten

  • 40 completed applications for STEP, with an additional 100 applications distributed

  • 68 Whole Child registrations

  • 10 voter registration forms (Some were new registrations and some were address updates)

  • 9 families were provided with “hard copy” ASQs and 10 names/phone numbers of families that wanted a call from our Help Me Grow specialist were taken.
